General Reminders for ALL Costumes/Classes

Please remove all tags from costumes carefully. These must be cut off not pulled or ripped. Pulling and ripping of the tag may cause a tear in the costume, and of course it is way too late to replace a torn costume.

ALL pants, skirts, or capri’s are to be worn at the waist. Dance costumes are made to be worn at the natural waistline NOT the hips. Pants are also not to be rolled.

Underwear is not to be worn. If you are self-conscious or want a little extra support you are always allowed to wear a flesh colored camisole. Anyone in the recital is allowed to wear these under any costume, for any reason. These are optional, unless stated by your instructor as MANDATORY.  (Miss Patti’s Pre-Dance classes ages 2-5 are okay to wear flesh colored undies!)

ALL Ballet slippers are to have their elastic bands attached.  This is something teachers have been reminding students of all year.  If they are not on by now please get them on.  They are required for the recital and all rehearsals.  Ballet shoe ties also need to be tied and tucked inside the shoe.

Elastic hair ties used to hold any braids or ponytails must match the color of each child’s hair.  If you have blonde hair please use a yellow elastic tie. If you have brown hair please use a brown elastic tie, and so on. This rule goes for bobby pins and hair clips as well.  Please leave all hot pink, purple, lime green, funky and fun hair ties at home during the week of recital.  No matter how much fun they may be to wear they are unacceptable this week.

Wrinkled Costumes – wrinkled costumes are to be hung upside down in the bathroom of your home. This is so that when taking a shower the steam from the shower will help the wrinkles fall out. Please DO NOT hang the costume in the shower with you. We just want the steam from the shower not the water and mess that goes with it! You should NOT IRON or WASH costumes for ANY REASON. This will destroy the costume fabric. Hanging a costume in the bathroom, or using a ‘steamer’ are the best ways to remove wrinkles. It also helps if you take the costume out of the bag well before pictures or recital.

Bailey’s Brand Tights. We only use “Bailey brand tights” for our recital, unless your paper clearly states that you need a “cheap black or tan” tight.  Different brand tights are different colors – when the kids are lined up if your color is different we will have them change & we then send you a bill for the tights used.  We provide an order form for the Bailey brand tights to save you a trip to their store in Buffalo or Brockport.  Please take advantage of this and order during costume week (order form can be found online at www.csdcbatavia.com).  Also, even if you have Bailey’s tights that you use each week or used for recital last year, you still need new ones.  Once the tights are washed they begin to fade, and become noticeably different.

NO COLORED HAIR EXTENSIONS / FEATHERS OR COLORED DYE

No Earrings – (Band-Aids go over freshly pierced ears.)

No Nail polish – if you have fake nails - French manicure, but NO COLOR!

No Body Jewelry. No belly button rings, nose rings, or piercing of any kind allowed in shows. Either cover them with a band-aid or remove them for the show.

No Tattoos. Cover them with a band-aid or special tattoo make-up for the show.

No ‘Strappy Bra’ lines. Camisoles are sold as support bras too. Order one or just use a lined cami. Bra lines look terrible when the lights hit you on stage.

NO CHEWING GUM!!!

All jazz shoes should be Slip – on. No lace up jazz shoes or jazz sneakers is allowed in the recital unless specified by your teacher.

If one person from your class loses or (forgets, misplaces) a piece to their costume, then the entire class goes on without that piece.

If you lose your costume – you will not be able to participate with the class onstage.

Once the costumes leave the studio it becomes your responsibility to make sure that they stay in perfect condition until the day/night of the show. They will leave Center Stage flawless, and be expected to return on stage flawless. If something were to happen to the costume, unfortunately it is too late to fix. There is absolutely no way to replace a costume in time for the recital.  Therefore please keep all costumes out of reach of your children. DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO PLAY WITH COSTUMES!! There will be plenty of time for this once the recital is over.

If you are hemming their dance pants – remember that the bottom of the pants should cover top of foot. (See teacher if confused).

No Bangs- (except classes noted). Recital hair instructions are given for a reason… So everyone looks “uniform” on stage as a class. If you wear your hair different, it will be changed before you go on stage. If your costume is not done properly- it will need to be corrected before they can go on stage.   (all Pre-Dance classes can have bangs)

This is a production that we take great pride in and that is why we like everything to be clearly stated now- so you won’t be upset the day of the show if asked to put your child’s bangs back or change a costume part. The people that work the recital, volunteer their time out of the goodness of their hearts- so lets make their jobs easier by taking care of these things before they line up to go on stage!

Thanks! J
